Thank you!

The second release of my Aquacorns was a great success thanks to you all!

There are still a few full-size and baby Aquacorns available in my Store, so grab them while you can! I also have my Unicorn Slayer tshirt design on Teepublic.

New Logo!

As you have probably noticed, I have a new logo! I got tired of my old stamp logo and decided it was time to design a new one. I wanted to stay close to my Asian heritage while showing my stills as a painter and designer.

I explored a ton of other options before settling on the final design. I liked the idea of having a sort of mascot in my logo that would represent me and my work. As you can see, the early executions didn’t turn out so well.

During my exploration process, I noticed that the “flaming water drop” shape and a calligraphic writing style kept expressing themselves. I refined those themes in the later sketches with my “MnJa” character, using the top of the M as the head (an idea that I thought of in early sketches). Finally, I took a paintbrush with black ink and actually painted my logo in my sketchbook. I scanned the painting into Illustrator, cleaned up the lines and accentuated the sharp ends of each brush stroke.

My color palette is something that appears in my artwork quite often. My favorite color right now is a bright teal, but I wanted another color to stand out against it as my logo. Keeping with the Chinese stamp idea from my old logo, I chose a bright ruby red.

So there it is! It was a long process to get to the final design, but I hope you all like my new logo as much as I do.

Commissioned Toys

I’ve been taking a short break after my Aquacorns release to work on some commissions. Allow me to present Dakota, a Markus Schultz inspired Unicorno. For those of you who don’t know, Markus Schultz is an EDM DJ who has the nickname “Unicorn Slayer of Trance”. Dakota was commissioned by a fan of his and is living happily in his new home. He will also be taking an exciting trip to Ibiza this summer!

I am also working on an aquatic-themed Sword-Swallower Dunny custom. I don’t have a name for him yet. Anyone have any ideas? I’m really terrible at coming up with names. My boyfriend is actually the one who comes up with them for me!

Upcoming Projects

If you have been following my Instagram, you may have noticed that I posted this image a while ago. Now that my Aquacorn project is over (for now) I can finally get started on my Delectables line, which will feature Kidrobot Dunnys. You can follow my progress on Instagram or my project diary: Delectable Dunnys WIP.

I plan to get started on these this weekend, so stay tuned for updates! (Hint: there will be another GIVEAWAY.) The first batch of Delectables will be released in about one and a half months, just in time for convention season.

Speaking of conventions, I am going to be attending San Diego Comic Con this year for the first time! I really want to dress up, but am having trouble deciding on a costume. The convention is still a few months away, but I’ll be busy working on my Delectable Dunnys so I want to plan ahead for Comic Con.

Designer Con

I’m excited to announce that I will be exhibiting at Designer Con with the lovely Simon Says Macy, who makes adorable clay creatures. Check out her website and follow her on Instagram and Twitter!

This is my first year having a booth at Dcon, so I’m simultaneously really excited and really nervous. I have a huge list of items that I need to prepare before the November convention, so starting this weekend I will be in 24/7 production mode. Good thing I binged-watched Daredevil on Netflix last week because I won’t have any free time from now until Designercon!
