Hello Friends!
First, thank you all for voting for my custom Alice in Candyland custom dunny during the Martian Toys contest. Although I didn’t win, I was honored to be part of such a wonderful competition. It was very inspiring to see everyone bringing their A-game and it was cool to find out about artists who were previously unknown to me. I am definitely inspired to keep improving and showing you all what I can do.
I am thrilled to announce that I will be part of the California Love Art Show at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland! Along with other California artists, I am sharing what made me fall in love with the Golden State.
I moved to the west side of Los Angeles in 2012 and immediately fell in love Sawtelle Japantown. This cute neighborhood has my all-time favorite favorite restaurants, dollar-fifty store Daiso, and art gallery Giant Robot 2! Japantown was the first place that felt like home to me after moving here from the East Coast. I want to stay here forever!
Without further ado, here’s a look at my pieces for the show.
Sawtelle Spirit features some of my most frequented spots Japantown: Tsujita LA, Blockheads, Beard Papa’s, and Giant Robot 2. If you are in Los Angeles, I highly suggest visiting this wonderful neighborhood. Snack at one (or all) of the many dessert places. My personal favorite is the black sesame shaved ice combo at Blockheads. Have a satisfying bowl of ramen, or treat yourself to one of the other amazing Asian restaurants on this strip. Buy household items you never thought you needed at Daiso. I usually go in to buy sponges, but walk out with a bag full of other stuff. I can’t resist all those cute things for a dollar-fifty! Finally, visit the Giant Robot 2 gallery. There is always something interesting to see, and you might even catch Katsuya Terada doing a live painting!
My California Girls kokeshi captures the colorful styles of California that I fell in love with. I love how everyone has such a unique style on the West Coast. People are constantly exploring trends and colors. Oh the colors! Maybe it’s the sunshine in Southern California, but everything seems brighter here!
The opening reception for the California Love Art Show will take place on Saturday, March 5, from 4-8pm. The exhibition runs through April 24. 10% of proceeds will be donated to CITYstage, a nonprofit performing arts organization in Los Angeles that serves at-risk middle and high school youth.
